A legacy to Maurice Strong (1929-2015) Sustainability and Climate Champion for the Planet
We are an EU based, global not for profit organization, created by Professor Geoffrey Lipman in 2010 to carry on the vision of his friend and mentor Maurice Strong and apply it specifically to the Travel & Tourism sector.
We conceive, create and manage programs to help Travel & Tourism Stakeholders meet the targets of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (2030) & the Paris 1.5 Agreement (2050)
The Strong Universal Network
In 2015, in the context of the Paris Agreement, we committed to focus on the existential Climate Crisis and launched SUN - the Strong Universal Network as a program to engage the vitally important Travel & Tourism Sector.
Later we added the “x” to underscore the eXistential dimension of the Climate Crisis.
In 2019, we entered into a long term Agreement with the Ministry of Tourism of Malta and Malta Tourism Authority to establish SUNx Malta as a World Centre for Climate Friendly Travel – SDG and Paris 1.5 linked.

Through SUNx Malta, we are establishing systems and structures to advance Climate Friendly Travel and have created:

Diploma on Climate Friendly Travel
In collaboration with the Institute of Tourism Studies in Malta, to teach Strong Climate Champions to galvanise action at national level and become agents of change in Travel & Tourism.

Registry of Ambitions
This is our Climate Friendly Travel Registry for 2050 Zero GHG Climate & Sustainability Ambitions for Tourism stakeholders. It is also linked to the UN Climate Action portal and it is open to all Travel & Tourism companies and communities.

Network of SDG 17 Partners
Over the years we have created a solid network of CFT support, climate resilience, emission reduction and SDG related advice. Every year we organise a CFT Think Tank event gathering worldwide experts working towards the climate crisis.

Climate Portal
A platform to gather best practice research, innovation, worldwide climate strategies, learning resources, advice from our network, climate analytics and visibility of good practices of Climate Friendly Travel implementation.

Maurice Strong
Maurice Strong played a unique and critical role in globalizing the environmental movement. He led the historic United Nations Conference on the Human Environment held in Stockholm, Sweden in 1972 and the UN Conference on Environment and Development in 1992.

Prof. Geoffrey Lipman
Professor Geoffrey Lipman has been an advocate for sustainable tourism and its intersect with the climate crisis for 3 decades since attending the Rio Earth Summit. He was an extensive experience leading world-wide travelism companies and teaching.
